Journal Club

The SoCCC Journal Club is a recurring educational program that reviews and discusses important new research relevant to critical care cardiology. Each session highlights a recent publication and brings expert faculty together to interpret the findings, discuss clinical implications, and consider how the evidence may influence practice. It is designed for cardiologists, intensivists, advanced practice providers, trainees, and other clinicians involved in the care of critically ill cardiovascular patients.

Intermediate Risk High Stakes

July Journal Club
HI-PEITHO: Reperfusion Therapy for Intermediate-High-Risk Pulmonary Embolism - What Have We Learned and What Comes Next?

This journal club featured a discussion of the landmark HI-PEITHO trial, which evaluated ultrasound-facilitated catheter-directed thrombolysis plus anticoagulation versus anticoagulation alone in patients with intermediate-high-risk pulmonary embolism (PE). Dr. Israel Safiriyu provided a perspective on trial design, strengths and limitations, and the practical application of the findings for clinicians caring for patients with acute pulmonary embolism. The study's co-lead investigator and lead author, Dr. Kenneth Rosenfield, joined the discussion and answered questions on how the results have influenced future PE management strategies.
