About the event
Being a patient in the CICU, facing life-threatening conditions like cardiogenic shock, can be an incredibly frightening and isolating experience. Patients often find themselves in a foreign environment, cared for by strangers, sometimes drifting in and out of consciousness, and relying entirely on their caregivers to act in their best interest.
In this session, we will explore the complex and deeply personal world of CICU patients, hearing firsthand accounts from individuals of diverse backgrounds about their experiences, how their lives have been transformed, and how they perceive life in the wake of their illness and recovery journey. Additionally , mental health, from the perspective of a CICU patient, is often underdiscussed and underappreciated. We’ll gain insights from experts in Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) and post-CICU care, who will discuss available resources and strategies to provide the best possible support for these patients during and after their time in the CICU.
